The day the diggers came, we all stared the other way.

The day the diggers came, the birds fled in fear. The rabbits were outed from their homes. The deer who sipped from the water scattered, retreated into the disappearing woods. The bees and the butterflies

But we all turned the other way.

We read articles and watched TV shows about saving our land and tutted and sighed.

But when the diggers came we all turned away.
