Sea Stories - a Monthly Creative Writing Challenge hosted on Sea, Earth, Sky

Sea Stories – A New Monthly Blog Challenge

I’m excited to introduce a brand new creative writing monthly challenge, inspired by the sea and coast to Sea, Earth, Sky!

I love writing about the sea, and it crops up time and time again in many of my stories, poems, and all over this blog – of course. So I thought, what a great opportunity to inspire other people to write about the sea in a monthly challenge. This challenge is very informal – it’s just something to inspire you to write about the sea and coast.

A new prompt will be posted on the first Saturday of each month, giving you up to a month to write and post your new piece of writing.

Write a short story, flash fiction, poem – whatever takes your fancy!

To take part, all you need to do is write something on the theme/prompt (which can be very loosely based – think of it as a starting point for your piece of writing) and post it on your blog by the end of the month.

March Theme:

New Beginnings

Inspired by the beginning of spring and the start of longer days. Write  about a new start and the hope of spring. The feeling of being by the ocean or the sea. The beach on a spring day. Expectations for the coming season. Take it as a starting point and see where it takes you!

Once you’ve posted it, add a link to your story below and if you’re using WordPress, don’t forget to tag your writing with seastories! I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with. Don’t forget to check back in a month’s time for the April writing theme.

Share your story on Twitter, Tumblr, and Instagram using #seastories.

Need some inspiration? Check out some of my sea themed writing, including Spring Tides and Return.
