Five Female Authors Who Inspire Me

It’s International Women’s Day tomorrow, so I thought I’d put together a list of some of the female writers who have inspired me in my life and work over the past few years. This was going to be a more general list, but it ended up consisting entirely of writers, so without any further ado….

1. J.K. Rowling

It’s not a surprise that the Harry Potter author tops this list. An constant inspiration to me and a woman who changed my life thanks to Harry Potter. She continues to inspire to this day.

2. Daphne du Maurier

I fell in love with Daphne many, many years ago and her books continue to inspire me and shape my life. She lead a fascinating life too, and she remains a huge influence in my life and writing.

3. Beatrix Potter

It may have its faults, but the 2006 film Miss Potter reintroduced me to the life and world of Beatrix Potter. I adored Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle Duck as a child, and discovering that Beatrix was a woman who made things happen for herself (self publishing her first book) is inspiring.

4.  Jane Austen

The image of Jane Austen writing in her living room and hiding her writing away when guests came is an image that remains with me. When her novels were first published, they were merely attributed to “A Lady”, but her entertaining books about life and society have endured the test of time.

5. The Bronte sisters

The Bronte sisters displayed great perseverance and determination! Despite being discouraged in their writing, they went on to publish books that are still read all over the world!

Finally, I want to say a huge thank you to every female writer currently writing and all the female authors whose books have helped to inspire my work. Thank you. You are all absolutely wonderful and inspirational.

Check back tomorrow for a post featuring women that inspire bloggers and creators all over the world!

Which female authors inspire you? Let me know in the comments!
